Jackpot

Dear readers, I promise you that this will be an interesting entry. (Everything except work is interesting.) So. Today is my off day. After watching a lil' bit of TV, I set off from home at 12pm. Alone.

First Stop. Compass Point. Today i dressed really shabbily. (It was sort of a crossover between a lost kid and a fashion-victimised auntie. I look like an auntie and feel like an auntie. Every inch. So i decided to get some last minute changes. I went to Giordano to buy polo tees at 2 for $30. Hang ten has them at $10 each, but there is a minimum of three pieces. I bought a black(I Love Black!) and a maroon one.

I made a trip to the toilet to change out of my tee and put on the black polo tee. I made one terrible mistake that could land me in the AFV(America's Funniest Videos). (You shall see later.)

Feeling great, I walked out and went to look at the wallets on sale. I found one which I had a liking for, but it was dirty. I was rummaging around the wallets like an A.U.N.T.I.E. (there were two of them right beside me.) Then an auntie suddenly apparated beside me and said to me in Mandarin,"Miss, you never cut this thing off ah?(pointing to the tag hanging off the collar) Is it new or old? Very ugly leh!" Woah. Totally astounded. I replied her,"Oh, never mind" but I was slapping myself inside. She came to look at the wallets and had a bemused smile on her face when I looked at her. Loony. I think it is her hobby to put others down. Anyway, thanks for saving me from further embarassment. "Saving Ka SIa". Hahaha.

Sigh. I went back to the toilet and used a nail clipper to clip off the tag. How could I forget...

After that I went to take the MRT to Chinatown. There was this girl, with her friend, sitting opposite me. I was merely glancing around and found her clothes familiar. Then I was like, Hmm... polo tee. Hmm... black. Hmm... two white buttons on collar. S-H-I-T. Wardrobe clash. We were wearing the absolutely same polo tee design from Giordano. Fashion disaster. Fortunately they got off at Kovan. Phew...

Getting off at Chinatown station, I went to walk around in OG(tried on some T-shirts but gave them back to the person sitting at the entrance of the fitting rooms... give them something to do mah.).
I went into This Fashion. They were playing Qian Li Zhi Wai. Wait. Read on.

I didn't know which way to go to get to the shop selling cheap cds. So I called my brother and he told me to walk in the direction which leads me away from OG.

At People's Park Complex(a green building), I saw some good bargains. Nice clothes that are Cheap, Cheap, and Very Cheap. There is this shop M5, which sells youngster wear at affordable prices. They were playing a remix techno version of Qian Li Zhi Wai. Again.

I got Tu Tu Kueh(Peanut) to munch on and went into CK Departmental Store. (
There were quite a number of Caucasians around this area.) There were a lot of well-known brands located in this mall, including SK Jewllery, Giordano and Poh Heng. Wow, not bad. Not bad at all.

And, the mall itself, was playing Fa Ru Xue. A song by Jay Chou again.

I found the cd shop at Pearl's Centre(a grey-silver building) and bought Jay Chou's 'The Eight Dimensions' and 'Fantasy Plus', which includes EP+13MV VCD. Shit. Can't save it to Realplayer. I got Avril's 'My World' DVD. Yay! Avril Rocks! There was a lion dance performance which I couldn't get a view of, with the sea of bobbing heads in front of me. I walked away and took the MRT at Outram Park station. Oh yes. Charges are 20 cents for usage of toilets at Pearl's Centre.

I took the EW line to Bugis. In the underpass, a Malay guy suddenly went up to me and talked very quickly some kinda gibberish. Then he asked,"Can you hear me?" I couldn't, cause I was listening to my mp3 player, but i replied yes. He explained his cause and I figured out it was some kind of fund to help jail-leavers get on the RIGHT track. Sorry, bye bye.

Went to buy a pair of BLACK PATENT pointy flats at Bugis Street. Cool. I can use them for work or for outtings. There is this flower-pattern bag at Zinc that Michelle likes very much but didn't buy because she doesn't like the brand. Then she regretted not buying the bag. I offered to get it for her but she didn't want it anymore. Anyway, I went to the MRT station again as soon as I completed buying what I wanted because my mother was rushing me.(The malay guy and his group were still there.) She was going to the temple with my little brother and complained that my brother will have to wait very long to play the roller blades if i didn't get there any sooner.(I was supposed to take care of him.) So I switched to the NW line to AMK, where my mom fetched me.

The ladyboss of the hair salon was busy with two customers. In the meantime I picked out the colour I wanted to dye. They had no white colour, which I had wanted as highlights. I looked at the 'book' and was undecided between blue-black(not that kind of blue-black!), scarlet and light blonde sand. In the end I chose pastel blonde highlights. It was the closest to white highlights.

I had one plastic 'cap' wrapped over my head(the ladyboss mentioned something about not using aluminium foil because this colour makes it diffcult to wash the foils) and there were holes for the hair to be picked out for highlighting. I looked like a cancer patient with barely a few strands of hair standing out. A coat of liquid bleach was 'painted' on the exposed hair, and my head was steamed. Once more, the bleach and steaming. I almost fell asleep in the steamer. And I can't read the Lao Fu Zi comic without my glasses. Finally it was time to put on the colour. After waiting and some more waiting, it was finally done. The ladyboss washed my hair and i sort of wobbled in a drunken manner when i got up. Too relaxed, i guess. Haha.

Time for the revelation! I was without glasses and through the blurry reflection I thought I looked hideous. With a tinge of worry I put on my glasses and thought I looked like an Ah Beng. I thought, this is what I get after going through two hours of plain boredom and getting my brains fried(by the steamer)? Oh yes. Think about steamed brains. Haha. Anyway, the colour was not what I wanted. It wasn't as bright as the sample. Ladyboss already told me about it-that the colour won't be so white in the end because my hair colour is dark. I was so distressed. What am I going to do with this ugly tuft of hair? However, there is one very bright streak at the back of my head(because the steam comes from the back). I wish the front is as white as this. =/ How am I going to face the world?

Different people had different opinions. The ladyboss said it was nice(but makes me look like a pai za boh, ie. bad girl). My brother agreed it was better than the one I had before dyeing(the semi-brown, semi-black colour). Another auntie friend of my mom's said it looked good. My mom said I looked like a thousand-year-demoness. An auntie selling seafood saw it as beautiful. For me,the more I look at it, the more I adore myself... Heehee...

On a sidenote, I wouldn't go through another gruelling process if given the choice. Next time I would dye the whole head to a more convenient colour which doesn't require steaming. Hahaha. It was $55, originally $65 you know. But because of my charm, yeah...

Today, I officially add one more entry to my list of Good Shopping Places:
1. Toa Payoh Central(my lovely hometown!)
2. Ang Mo Kio(the walk-anywhere-also-won't-get-lost area)
3. Bugis Street(a lot of identical items but cheap nevertheless)
And, newly added:
4. Chinatown (As I would say, "There is a silver lining for every ulu place." =>)

Till then.
