Abhorrence

Yesterday was the first day of the Lunar New Year. Sigh. Have to go visit my realatives again. I don't really like it. I have nothing to do over there. All the people there are either young childish kids or obnoxious people I don't like. Oh.. what a torture. Somemore there are always no good programmes on TV on New Year Day. Only the encore of the previous day's countdown party or some sorta lion dance competition. Then there's no place to go so all the shops will be closed. It's so damn boring. To me, only the pre-CNY days are appealing. Cause it's a reason to buy new clothes and shoes! Anyway I don't buy for CNY's sake. I buy something when I like it. Haha.

But the actual day wasn't that bad actually. We went to my paternal grandma's house. LUCKILY nobody tried to start a conversation with me. Phew. =) I just slacked around , called my friends, ate some CNY goodies, goofed around, watched the (boring) TV and go ka jiao the babies(not mine, of course!). Then some unknown people came in. From what my mom said they are my father's cousins or something. Amidst the commotion I yelled "Eh, who are you huh?" at them but fortunately they didn't hear me. Haha. Who cares who they are, though, as long as I managed to get more hongbao money. =) Yeah, so I got all my hongbaos. (The total amount is confidential, though. Haha.)

Up next, we went to pray at a temple. After spending sometime there, we proceeded to River Hongbao 2007, which is held near Esplanade. I was so utterly dissapointed about the event. It was all wrong. The decorations, place, everything. Well, this isn't exactly the first time I have felt like this. My family and I have been avid supporters of River Hongbao since I was like five, and it is turning worse every year. In the past, the signature statues of the Eight Immortals and the God of Wealth were masterfully and beautifully crafted. Now, they have degraded to mediocre pieces of cloth which are shaped by wires and lighted up by neon lights. YUCKS THEY SUCK! Then they are the dozens of booths selling souvenirs and food and a mini funfair. Nothing much attractive. The festive spirit of the past is now all gone. I prefer the then River Hongbao, where there are wooden planks to cover up the sticky mud and when it wasn't so commercial. It was so much more real. =/ My mom even suggested we don't come here anymore in the future.

Disappointed, we went to wait for the fireworks which start at nine. It was gorgeous. I think it must be my tenth or so time watching fireworks. But i still like it. At least it helped to lessen the previous disappointment. Come on, please let the management of River Hongbao read this!

Anyway, Happy Lunar New Year to all!
